Giant Vegan Easter Egg – Costa Rica – Montezuma’s

Large vegan Easter egg created with love, hand crafted from dark chocolate in the West Sussex country side, England.

Montezuma’s bold and beautiful giant Easter egg is made from Costa Rican cocoa, giving it a distinct aroma and flavour which is subtle and rich while not being overly bitter.

A rather chunky hollow egg the shell is approximately 5mm thick, the egg stands 25cm (just under 10 inches) high and 16cm (just over 6 inches) wide and weighs in at 550g!

The outer shell of the chocolate Easter egg has a starburst effect created by hand piping dark chocolate over the outside of the egg, resulting in a chic and tactile pattern.

This giant egg is presented wrapped in biodegradable clear film, with the Montezuma’s logo printed on it, and has its on little stand so it stands rather proudly by it’s self and is finished off with a ribbon and label.

This is one of two giant chocolate Easter eggs from Montezuma’s; the other is the Giant Egg: Venezuela a rich milk chocolate egg with 43% Venezuelan cocoa, the same size and weight as the Giant Egg: Costa Rica.

This dairy free Easter egg is one of two eggs exclusively available online, and only from the Thorntons site, the other is a Fair Trade egg – with the same packaging but in gold foil.

The smart but universal presentation of green foil and a ribbon tied bag means this dark chocolate Easter egg is visually suitable for all ages.

This is more than just a Dairy Free dark chocolate Easter egg, “It has been made under strictly controlled conditions to prevent any cross contamination from nuts, dairy, egg and gluten.” quoted from Thorntons website.

I have taken that to mean that it is suitable for vegans and people with some food intolerances and food allergies;

Vegan, as it is dairy free and egg free.
Dairy Free, suitable for anyone with lactose intolerance.
Nut Free, for anyone with nut allergies.
Egg free, for anyone with egg allergies.
Gluten Free, suitable for anyone with a wheat allergy or Celiac/Coeliac disease.

However as the egg is not specifically labelled as any of the above, that does mean there is no guarantee. As always, it is always best to check.

I have to say considering the “strictly controlled conditions” this egg was made in, at only £6.50 it seems rather good value for money, especially when you consider the difference in price of organic and non-organic food.
